What type of pets can a contract holder have?

What type of pets can I have?

Bron Afon will refer to the pet policy when making a decision about a pet application. Bron Afon will consider the following when deciding upon the type or number of pets within a property.

  • Property size
  • Property type
  • Household occupants / family size
  • Any contract management concerns within the past 12 months (poor condition of property/garden)
  • Species of pet
  • Alterations required to the property to keep the animal ‘well’

Bron Afon will not unreasonably refuse permission and any refusal will be based upon the factors mentioned above. Where Bron Afon decide that the ‘potential risk’ posed by an animal is significant, the right of refusal is reserved. This may include venomous or aggressive animals.

Additionally, any animal listed in the Schedule of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, or The Control of Trade in Endangered Species (Enforcement) Regulations may not be kept in a Bron Afon property under any circumstances.

Dogs listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (excluding those that have gone through the legal exemption process) may not be kept in a Bron Afon property under any circumstances.

Dogs that have gone through the legal exemption process (notably XL Bully) OR dogs that are specifically used for working purposes will be allowed be kept within a Bron Afon Property with evidence provided to Bron Afon of the following:

  • Certificate of exemption (with microchip number) to keep an XL Bully dog or other dog breed.
  • Evidence of third-party liability insurance
  • Appropriate equipment to remain compliant with legislation (Lead & muzzle) within public areas.
  • The animal being kept in a safe place so it cannot escape, this may include a secure cage.

The keeping of any animal (unless exempt) listed in either of these pieces of legislation (or any legislation which may replace the existing) will be classed as a severe act of anti-social behaviour and enforcement action against the contract will be taken. This is to protect the health and safety of any residents living in the local community and employees of Bron Afon who may encounter the animals.
