Shared ownership rent increase letter 2024

Dear «MAILNAME»

Changes to your rent 2024/25

I am writing to inform you it is necessary to increase your rent for the next financial year commencing 1st April 2024.  A formal notice is attached in the format required by law.

The increased calendar monthly payment for your proportion of the rent is £«TOTAL» from 1st April 2024.

Rent free weeks

The weeks beginning 26th August and 30th December 2023 will be regarded as ‘rent free’ weeks for tenants who are up to date with their payments. We expect anyone who is behind with their rent to use these weeks to catch up by continuing to make payments. If at any time you are in difficulty with your payments, let us know straightaway so we can offer you help and advice.

If you claim Universal Credit:

You will need to notify the Department for Work and Pensions (‘the DWP’) of your new rent charge. You will need to do this on 1st April using your online universal credit account or at the Job Centre.

If you claim Housing Benefit:

You don’t need to do anything.  We have sent your new total rent charge to the Council’s Housing Benefit team and they will automatically adjust any benefit paid to us

If you pay by Direct Debit:

We will amend your direct debit from April to take account of the new charges.  We will contact you at least five working days before your new Direct Debit is due to be collected to confirm the new amount.

If you pay by Standing Order:

You will need to amend your payments with your bank to take account of the new charges.

What if I already have an agreement in place to repay a debt to Bron Afon?

You will need to increase your payments so that you are paying your new rent and service charge plus the extra amount you agreed to pay to reduce your debt when you set up your payment plan.

If you have any queries or wish to discuss this letter, please contact our Customer Services Team on 01633 620 111 or at enquiries@bronafon.org.uk  and we will put you in touch with the relevant person to deal with your enquiry.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Brunt

Chief Executive
