Safety Briefing – working with non-licensed asbestos products

To further supplement the recent Asbestos Category ‘A’ & ‘B’ training this TBT has been produced to reaffirm working with non-licensed asbestos products.

The organisation endeavours to provide as much asbestos data as possible (in the form of surveys or sample taken) so we are able to inform you of the location of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) in a property before you commence any works.

As per Bron Afon’s policy, you are only to work with non-licensed ACMs (i.e. asbestos cement roof tiles), no work is to be done on licensed ACMs (i.e. AIB door). A number of POWs, (Plans of Work),  have been created and are to be followed (and adapted to suit different tasks) when working with non-licensed ACMs.

If you encounter any suspect material which you believe may be a licensed product, you must stop work and following the ‘asbestos emergency procedure’. If ‘out of hours’, contact the Bron Afon Community Housing Duty Manager who will then contact one of the nominated licensed removal contractors who will attend site and investigate.

The index of  ‘NON LICENSED’ tasks are detailed below, please apply the correct POW to the task being undertaken:
