Rents – Former contract holders arrears

Former contract holders are still liable for any outstanding balance on their former rent account.

If they are looking to be rehoused by Bron Afon the balance will either need to have been cleared in full or 60% of the debt cleared by making 12 consecutive payments on the account for the required amount. Exceptions can be made in exceptional circumstances (e.g someone fleeing domestic violence) and would be decided by a Area Housing manager.

Former rent accounts also have stages, we can set agreements on any stage up until third party collection as this means the account has been passed to a debt collection agency and the tenant will have to contact them to set up a payment plan.

Unlike live rent accounts there is no minimum amount needed to pay towards the arrears if they are not looking to be rehoused with us, however you will still need to enter the agreement amount and frequency on the system.

A former debt will show as ‘written off’, any credit paid after that balance should be deducted to get a true amount left owed.
