How to send Braille or Audio communication

This helps you to communicate with customers who are blind or visually impaired.

If you need to communicate with a customer who is blind or visually impaired you will need to:

  1. Contact Pia, a local company we use 01633 488 000 or post@pia.co.uk – who arrange Braille or audio
  2. Supply the following details to them:
  • The format the information is needed in – braille or audio. If the person who needs Braille is also a Welsh speaker, then Pia will arrange this – just let them know when you contact them.
  • When you need the information ready. Pia can send direct to the person needing the format if this helps – Talk to them about this.
  • The information in a word document where possible (as well as the original format e.g. pdf) as this helps to cut down on costs, because Pia don’t have to remove any pictures, graphics etc. from the pdf format.
  • A purchase order number. The cost of the translation will be met by your service area. You will need to look for CAR020 on P2P.

Remember: If you are sending out information in this format so it arrives at the same time as the standard/English copies. It is good practice to enclose a copy of the information in regular print as this will help if there is a sighted person in the household. Pia can arrange this and post the information direct to the person – make sure you ask them about this.
