South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have lots of tips on staying safe in your home:
- Test your smoke alarm every week.
- Make a plan so that everyone in your home knows how to escape in the event of fire.
- Never put your washing machine or tumble dryer on before going to bed or leaving your home for any reason. You can register your appliances here and you will be told about any safety recalls or problems with them.
- Close all the doors inside your home before you go to bed and switch off and unplug appliances.
- Keep anything that could catch fire away from the cooker. Use a timer and never leave it unattended.
- Use a maximum of one plug in each socket and never use them if wet.
