Japanese Knotweed (JKW) is an invasive species of weed. It is one of the most common and has a reputation for doing damage to property.
JKW can be kept under control and we organise monitoring and control works at about 110 of our sites annually. Each site is inspected and treated at the most optimum time, usually once per year. Control is important and although sites are dormant they are still inspected. To give an idea of scale the are around 20 of the 110 sites where JKW was once present and is now dormant.
People do often mistake other plants such as bindweed and even ivy for JKW so here’s a handy identification guide and advice that anyone can use to confirm the real thing and take action: Japanese knotweed / RHS Gardening
