Fire Safety (visual checks)

All staff are responsible for making observations and reports related to fire safety, this can include but is not limited to;

  • Fire doors propped open (Independent Living) – inform IL Team or CHM
  • Damage to fire detection, protection equipment e.g., fire alarm buttons, door closers – report to the DLO for assessment and repair.
  • Items blocking fire escape – if it is safe to do so move the items then

Items left in the street are not a fire safety issue unless blocking fire escape routes. NB highways responsibility applies (most of the “street” is adopted highway so TCBC responsibility so please check).

Items left around blocks including inside bin stores & cupboards – may pose a risk but only where arson is involved. Report to Places and Spaces & CHM. No-one can legally simply remove possessions from around blocks unless they have no value so a process would need to be followed by the CHM.
