In most cases trees growing near to built structures cause no issues. Where irrefutable evidence is provided that demonstrates a BA owned tree is the cause of the damage, we will take proportionate and appropriate action. This would be proportionate to the suspected damage.
Where professionally produced evidence is provided which demonstrates a tree under our ownership is causing damage, action will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
For contract holders we will send a Community Surveyor to the property. They will assess the damage and decide what work is needed. They will let the contract holder know during this visit what work will be carried out. If the tree needs work, the surveyor will liaise with our Places & Spaces team to arrange this.
If the customer is not a contract holder and there is damage to the property, they need to tell their insurance company. They will investigate and liaise with us as to costs.
Privately owned trees / trees in customers gardens that overhang neighbouring properties are entirely the responsibility of the owner or contract holder.
